1credit hour(s)Prerequisite:IRW 0980 or appropriate placement score. Pre- or corequisite:EPS 2201. This laboratory course works in concert with EPS 2201 to review the geological and biological processes that have operated on Earth for the last 4.6 billion years. Through lab exercises, students will explore key concepts of geologic time and stratigraphy, gain a thorough introduction to fossils, the fossil record and the basic methods of paleontology, and learn the skills needed to analyze and interpret geologic maps. Field trips will enhance understanding of how Earth history is interpreted from the geologic rock record.
