3credit hour(s)Prerequisite:CVS 1215 + CVS 1225 + CVS 1293 + CVS 1630 + DMS 1130 + (HLTH 1001 or HLTH 1003) Pre- or corequisite:DMS 1530 Corequisite:CVS 1625 + CVS 1690 + CVS 1693 This course presents an in-depth view of the etiology, signs and symptoms, risk factors and diagnosis of common cardiac and pericardial disease states as they pertain to echocardiography. Instruction is provided in the application of theory for the interpretation of two-dimensional echocardiography, M-mode, color flow imaging, and pulsed and continuous wave doppler in the diseased state. Topics covered in this course include, but are not limited to, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, systemic and pulmonary hypertensive diseases, cardiac tumors and pericardial disease. Advanced techniques in echocardiography are also discussed, as they relate to these disease processes.
