3credit hour(s)Prerequisite:BIOL 2715. Provides theory and experience with protocols used to characterize and manipulate nucleic acids and proteins. Builds on techniques learned in Biotechnology II. Techniques include RNA and protein isolation and quantification, RT-PCR, RNA interference, mammalian transfections, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, 2-D gel analysis, Western blotting, ELISAs, and basic bioinformatics and proteomics skills. Current issues and topics related to biotechnology will be explored.
