PSY 2250 - Introduction to Counseling in the Substance Abuse Field
3credit hour(s)Pre- or corequisite:IRW 0980 or appropriate placement score or CSE 1101. This course develops understanding and basic competency in one-on-one counseling skills and group settings most relevant to addiction treatment with an emphasis on the principles of motivational counseling and client empowering approaches. There is a strong emphasis on understanding diversity and culture to support counseling techniques. Students will be required to complete field-based work in an approved setting.
