Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary field where general science meets cutting-edge environmental solutions. The dynamic courses in this program blend a solid science foundation with a focus on tackling real-world environmental challenges. Completion of this certificate sets the learner up to apply for both industry and government jobs. The learner will also be positioned to transfer to associates or bachelor’s degree programs in a variety of science fields.

Special Requirements
Physical Requirements
Learners in one of the required courses (ENVS 1210) are required to attend two off-campus field trips and, depending on selected locations, may need to access uneven/rough terrain and/or hike into/out of areas while engaged in course related activities.
Transportation
Learners should plan for up to 10 field trips per course and are responsible for transportation to/from sites.

Common employers in our region include county or city government, DOT, Sandia National Labs, Los Alamos National Labs, Vesper Energy, Terracon Consultants, Curia, Canacre, Pueblo governments, among many others.
As of May 2023, Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates 410-730 environmental science related jobs in the state of New Mexico with a projected 7% growth rate. New Mexico and Wyoming lead the nation in the concentration of jobs in environmental science. For New Mexico, the average hour wage is $39.47.
