School of Applied Technology (AT)

The Industrial Automation (Mechatronics) Technician program prepares students to work in highly automated industrial manufacturing environments. The program includes operation, maintenance and troubleshooting instruction in mechanical components, industrial electricity and electronics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • This educational option is an: Certificate of Completion
  • This educational option can be completed: Full-Time
  • This educational option is designed for: Students interested in working in an industrial setting in support of manufacturing processes; and STEM-focused students interested in lab work at national labs like Sandia, LANL and AFRL.  The current proposal does not focus on students interested in transfer to a 4-year degree.

Educational Opportunities

The curriculum is based on Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) standards and curriculum and local industry needs. Students will be able to earn industry-recognized certifications and micro-credentials as they complete the program. Students who pass the written test and complete the associated lab work can receive SACA gold certification.

Career Opportunities

This program is in response to community needs and will position CNM as a leader in training for Industry 4.0, industrial automation, electro-mechanical technology and other in-demand and evolving industrial and manufacturing trends.  Amazon, Honeywell, Intel, and Sandia National Labs have a need for these technicians.

Ten Year Rule for CTE Courses

Career and technical education courses in this program will qualify for credit for a period of ten academic years. Due to changing technologies, trends, and professional demands, courses completed ten or more years in the past will satisfy program requirements only if they are approved by the instructional school in which they were offered. Cohorted programs may have additional restrictions.
