School of Business & Information Technology (BIT)

The program is designed to introduce students to DevOps fundamentals, including the core principles of the DevOps methodology. Students will learn to develop, deploy and maintain applications. They will also learn to use tools and common techniques for configuring and deploying systems. Students will also learn operations, monitoring, testing, security, and Cloud features. Several scripting languages are introduced, as well as Linux. In addition, students will learn network services, topologies and protocols.

Educational Opportunities

Many of the courses in this degree are transferable and some may be applied to two and four-year degree programs.  CNM currently has transfer agreements with many colleges and universities in New Mexico and elsewhere.

Career Opportunities

With the continued adoption of DevOps to bring together development and operations to increase innovation and expedite processes, those with training in a DevOps skill set will be in demand for years to come. Some careers in this area include DevOps Engineer, software developer, automation architect.


The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates a 22% job growth for DevOps team positions of software developers and testers through 2029. This growth is much faster than average when compared to all occupations.

Ten Year Rule for CTE Courses

Career and technical education courses in this program will qualify for credit for a period of ten academic years. Due to changing technologies, trends, and professional demands, courses completed ten or more years in the past will satisfy program requirements only if they are approved by the instructional school in which they were offered. Cohorted programs may have additional restrictions.
