Infant Family Studies, Certificate of Achievement

School of Education (ED)

A certificate in Infant Family Studies will lead to a career pathway in home visiting, early intervention, Early Head Start, and/or becoming an infant and toddler teacher. For professionals already in the field, this certificate will enhance their ability to work with families and young children. Students pursuing this certificate are encouraged to complete the Early Childhood Multicultural Education (AA), Infant Family Studies Concentration .

A  background check is required for students enrolled in the Early Childhood Multicultural Education practicum courses which are required for the successful completion of this degree or certificate.

Educational Opportunities

Students who complete this certificate are eligible to apply for an Infant Family Studies Certificate offered by the New Mexico Office of Child Development. For more information, contact the Office of Child Development in the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department.


For more information, contact the Office of Child Development.  Students completing the associate degree in Infant Family Studies may apply for initial certification as a Developmental Specialist I Advanced through the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department.

Ten Year Rule for CTE Courses

Career and technical education courses in this program will qualify for credit for a period of ten academic years. Due to changing technologies, trends, and professional demands, courses completed ten or more years in the past will satisfy program requirements only if they are approved by the instructional school in which they were offered. Cohorted programs may have additional restrictions.
