Phlebotomy Technician, Certificate of Achievement

Upon successful completion of this program, the students will be able to:

1. Physician Orders: Accurately interpret requisitions, physician orders, laboratory terminology, and abbreviations.

2. Clinical Applications: Define the general purpose of laboratory tests as they relate to the diagnosis and treatment of common disease processes.

3. Procedures: Safely perform venipuncture, skin puncture, miscellaneous collections, specimen handling, bedside testing, and special tests using Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines, including selecting proper tubes and order of draw.

4. Communication: Interact with patients, visitors, and healthcare personnel in a professional manner to include providing patients/clients with proper instruction concerning the collection of specimens.

5. Clerical: Accurately perform pre-analytical duties including clerical, computer, quality control, and other essential duties related to phlebotomy.
