Upon successful Completion of this program, the students will be able to:
Affective Domain
- Demonstrate exemplary professional behavior that includes but is not limited to integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, empathy, self-motivation, self-confidence, punctuality, work ethic, and appearance/ personal hygiene.
- Demonstrate clear communication in various situations (speak clearly, write legibly/ correct typos (proof reading), listen actively, adjust communication strategies).
- Demonstrate teamwork and diplomacy by placing the success of the team above self-interest; not undermining the team; helping and supporting team members; showing respect for all team members; remaining flexible and open to change; communicating with others to resolve conflict.
- Demonstrate patient advocacy by not allowing personal biases or feelings to interfere with interactions; placing the needs of patients above self-interest; protecting and respecting patient confidentiality and dignity.
- Demonstrate cultural competence by maintaining awareness of the assumptions and biases related to cultural issues and how they may affect patients, peers and all others involved in the delivery of medical care. Seeking to learn about others’ cultural identities and looking at how one’s, own background and social environment have shaped the individual. Provide culturally competent, equitable and medically appropriate care to each patient no matter their background.
Psychomotor Domain
- Demonstrate a comprehensive Advanced EMT/ EMT-Intermediate-level assessment on a patient (pediatric, adult or geriatric) suffering from a medical emergency or traumatic injury.
- Demonstrate Advanced EMT/ EMT-Intermediate-level patient care by integrating patient assessment findings to formulate a field impression and create/implement a plan to appropriately manage a patient (pediatric, adult, or geriatric) suffering from a medical emergency or traumatic injury.
- Demonstrate safe, appropriate and proficient performance of all psychomotor skills/ procedures within the National EMS Scope of Practice Model and the New Mexico Scope of Practice at the Advanced EMT/ EMT-Intermediate level.
Cognitive Domain (2028 – 2029, 2034 - 2035)
- Demonstrate Advanced EMT/ EMT-Intermediate level clinical reasoning by integrating knowledge in topics that include but are not limited to legal/ethical considerations, situational awareness, A&P, pathophysiology, patient assessment, airway/ventilation, cardiology, trauma, medical emergencies, Obstetrics/gynecology, and EMS operations to make informed field diagnoses and create treatment plans.
- Demonstrate Advanced EMT/ EMT-Intermediate level decision making by integrating knowledge in topics that include but are not limited to legal/ethical considerations, situational awareness, A&P, pathophysiology, patient assessment, airway/ventilation, cardiology, trauma, medical emergencies, Obstetrics/gynecology, and EMS operations to anticipating and prospectively intervene to mitigate emergencies, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, modify treatment plans, improve patient outcomes, and resolve previously unencountered problems.
- Demonstrate Advanced EMT/ EMT-Intermediate level documentation by utilizing and organizing patient demographic, assessment findings (subjective and objective), treatment and transport information into a clear, concise, and chronological patient care report.
