This program trains students in the operations and procedures that ensure employees operate in the safest possible manner in situations where contact with potentially hazardous materials is likely. Students will learn how to identify and handle hazardous materials including in emergency situations. Appropriate safety methods and work practice controls will be addressed. Students will also learn the signs and labels used to alert personnel of danger.
Career and Educational Opportunities
HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) is at the intersection of three Federal regulatory agencies (EPA, OSHA, DOT). Students will be prepared for entry-level positions as HazMat technicians. Duties might include skills that contain, inspect, analyze and clean up hazardous materials, proper practice for storage, shipping, and disposal of same.
