This is an Associate of Arts degree designed to substantially fulfill the freshman and sophomore course requirements for admission to bachelor’s degree programs in Hospitality Management at New Mexico State and other colleges and universities. The degree’s general education curriculum is accepted for transfer toward the general education core. Go here for articulation agreements.
Students are encouraged to communicate with the School of Business & Information Technology associate dean or program chairs at (505) 224-3811, as well as with admissions advisors at the college or university where they plan to complete the bachelor’s degree. Courses taken with the credit/no credit option, transfer credits and non-traditional credits that have been accepted by CNM may not be accepted by the transfer institution. Many four-year institutions have minimum grade point average requirements for admission as well as a requirement that all coursework be completed with grades of C or better.
The Hospitality & Tourism degree provides the foundational coursework for hospitality management. An overview of the hospitality industry and various employment and educational opportunities will be explored. In addition, students will study hospitality operations, marketing, event planning, food safety and production. Organizational behavior, human resources, leadership and management skills will be developed and applied in theory and lab settings

Jobs are available in lodging, casinos, restaurants, resorts, cruise ships, event planning, convention services, sales and marketing, bed and breakfasts, and other areas. Types of employment range from front office, marketing, guest services to management and leadership positions. Many hospitality careers have competitive benefits and wages with the opportunity for rapid advancement.
