Program Profile
Program Description
Students will study hands-on Welding Technology which includes blueprint reading, mathematics, metallurgy and other general course work. Classes include classroom and lab time. Upon completion of this program, graduates will be eligible for entry-level employment in a variety of industrial careers.
Skills needed for success
- This is a hands on program. Good eye – hand coordination. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Comfortable in a loud, fast paced environment.

- Immediate employment and or anyone wanting to learn to weld and fabricate metal projects.

Scheduling Information
- First, Second and Third term classes are offered every term. The first three terms have 300 contact hours of lab classes plus various lecture classes in blueprint reading welding math and metallurgy.

- Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 75 lbs., work in a variety of surroundings and conditions, ability to work in a noisy environment

- Financial aid eligible program. Scholarships available from American Society of Welding (AWS) and Albuquerque Foundation.

Educational Opportunities
Many of our courses are transferable to universities and CNM currently has transfer agreements with many colleges in New Mexico.
Employment Information
Over 90% percent of our graduates obtained employment in the metals technology field. Available jobs with the Machine Tool concentration include aerospace, manufacturing, research and development and the scientific fields. Available jobs with the Welding concentration include construction, energy and manufacturing. This degree prepares graduates for career advancement and increased earning potential.
One-hundred percent of our graduating class obtained employment in the welding industry. Jobs are available in the construction, manufacturing and energy fields.

- There is a huge shortage of welders in the state and nation.

- Fabricator, Fitter, Welders helper, Welder, Iron Worker, and Manufacturing Technician.
Sample Job Duties
- Layout, fabricate and weld various components, assemble, align, and repair mechanical components and systems.
Desirable Job Skills (non-technical)
- Communication, teamwork, listening, punctuality, dependability, bilingual (English – Spanish) a plus.
- Ability to locate information. Punctuality. Problem solving.
