Getting Started

Program Profile

Program Description

Students study a variety of vehicle systems in classes combining theory and laboratory exercises that prepare graduates to work on a variety of medium- and heavy-duty trucks and equipment. The program provides extensive hands-on training opportunities to ensure competency at program completion.

Skills needed for success

  • Successful students will be capable of working with their hands, following instructions, lifting heavy (up to 75 lbs.) objects, performing algebra, and locating information in on-line resources.

  • Diesel Equipment Concentration for the Associate of Transportation Degree and a Certificate of Completion Program.

Program Requirements

Students are expected to purchase textbooks, tools and personal safety equipment.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 75 lbs., work in a variety of surroundings and conditions, work with a variety of chemicals

  • A felony conviction will not prevent entry into the program or employment; however, it may limit available employment opportunities.

Many of our courses are transferable to universities and CNM currently has transfer agreements with many colleges in New Mexico.

Our graduates obtain employment in the medium/heavy duty truck and off-highway equipment industries, both locally and across the nation.

Current pay rates

  • Entry level pay for graduates begins at $11.00 to $19.00 per hour.
