EDUC 2260 - Emergent Literacy for Diverse Learners
3credit hour(s)Pre- or corequisite:EDUC 2285 Examines the fundamentals of literacy development for emergent readers and writers. Course competencies are built upon national and state standards for literacy and focus on the development and assessment of oral language, print awareness, letter knowledge, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, fluency, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. The course utilizes theoretical frameworks aligned with Structured Literacy principles and practices. Students will learn evidence-based methods focusing on diverse learners, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners, and develop skills in assessment, differentiation, and intervention strategies.
