ACCT 1220 - Volunteer Tax Training

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain basic personal income tax filing status requirements.
  2. Prepare simple income tax returns for individuals.
  3. Use appropriate tax software.
  4. Solve basic tax questions.
  5. Solve practical tax problems.

Course Description
Introduces basic tax return preparation issues and the software to complete and electronically file basic tax returns for low-income and elderly taxpayers. Students will not be able to take the ACCT 1998 Volunteer Tax Preparation Internship if they do not meet the current Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guideline that requires all volunteers to be either U.S. citizens or authorized aliens. An ”unauthorized alien” is defined by the IRS as a person not legally admitted into the United States for either permanent residence or employment.
