MATH 0850 - Math Test Preparation

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Use mathematical language Components:
  • Translate English phrases and/or sentences into algebraic expressions, equations and proportions.
  • Apply the properties of addition and multiplication.
  • Label answers properly to applied problems.
  • Simplify algebraic and numerical expressions.
  1. Components:Use the order of operations to simplify expressions.
  • Add and subtract like terms.
  • Multiply polynomials.
  • Divide polynomials by a monomial.
  • Simplify exponential expressions.
  • Solve algebraic equations.
  1. Components: Determine the solution of a system of two linear equations with two variables.
  • by substitution or addition.
  • by graphing.
  • Compute the solutions to a quadratic equation given the quadratic formula.
  • Identify the solutions of a quadratic equation of the form ax^2+bx+c=0 using the zero products property.
  1. Apply algebra Components:
  •  Arrange information using tables, formulas, and/or other visual representations to solve applied problems.
  • Identify a system of equations for a given word problem.
  1. Factor polynomials Components:
  • Factor out the GCF of a polynomial or Factor a polynomial using the Greatest Common Factor.
  • Factor trinomials, difference of squares and 4 term polynomials.

Course Description
The Math Test Preparation course is designed for students who just need a refresheron the topics of systems of equations, polynomials, factoring, and solving quadratic equations. Using computer software, students will receive an individualized study plan based on what math skills they need to improve on so that they can score higher on the Math Accuplacer test and possibly place into MATH 1310.
