IRW 0970 - Integrated Reading and Writing I

Student Learning Outcomes
At completion of the course, students must demonstrate satisfactory achievement of these six course objectives:

  1. Apply reading strategies to facilitate comprehension of academic and workplace reading.
  2. Demonstrate effective use of writing processes for academic and workplace purposes.
  3. Identify, analyze, and evaluate text features, including main ideas, topic sentences, supporting details, and organization of ideas.
  4. Produce sentences and paragraphs that successfully develop ideas with clear purpose and focus.
  5. Identify and correct major errors in sentence structure, grammar, and mechanics within the context of their own writing.
  6. Use technology effectively for writing and reading tasks.

Course Description
Introduces various work-related and academic texts and assists students in comprehending these texts and in constructing effective work-related and academic writings of their own. Students develop strategies to improve their reading and writing skills. Students learn the fundamentals of sentence structure as well as grammar and mechanics.
