Course competencies are built upon national and state standards for reading and focus on the development and assessment of oral language, phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, phonics, sight words, fluency, spelling, and student vocabulary. Demonstrates research-based methods, materials, and strategies for diverse learners, including differentiation and interventions for struggling readers. Requires field experience as part of the course.
