What happens if I don’t test into a Math class?

You should consider the following options:

1. Go home and get a good night’s rest.  You probably didn’t know you would be taking placement tests, or that they would take so long. You might want to try again tomorrow after a good night’s sleep.  On any subsequent try, ask to take only the math portion of the Accuplacer. You can take the Accuplacer once per day.  If your score is still not high enough:

3. Sign up for the CNM Math MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) by contacting Suzanne Harris-Smith at 224-4000, ext. 50164 or by email at shsmith@cnm.edu. For more information about the Math MOOC, please call or email Ms. Harris-Smith.

4. Take a Math Test Preparation Class. The School of Adult and General Education (SAGE) offers MATH 0850 , a Test Prep course for CNM first time college students who are frequently challenged by skills deficiencies in Mathematics. The Test Prep course provides students with the skills needed to overcome academic deficiencies noted from taking the Accuplacer so they may get placed into to a college-level course. If you have taken Math 0750 and you passed the course, you are eligible to enroll into Math 0970.

MATH 0970 , Algebraic Problem Solving I, covers topics in algebra including solving and graphing linear equations and inequalities, and solving systems of linear equations. This course also incorporates algebraic and geometric applications, formulas, and scientific notation.

• New Accuplacer scores of 57 Arithmetic or 26 Elementary Algebra will place you into this class.

If you have taken Math 0930 and you passed the course, you are eligible to enroll into Math 0980. Please see an Academic Coach to ensure you enroll into the proper Math course needed for your field of study.

MATH 0980 , Algebraic Problem Solving II, covers topics in algebra including exponential expressions, polynomials, factoring quadratic equations, and an introduction to functions.

• New Accuplacer scores of 41 Elementary Algebra will place you into this class.

If you have taken Math 0940 and you passed the course, you are eligible to enroll into MATH 1310  or another MSE Math course. Please see an Academic Coach to ensure you enroll into the proper Math course needed for your field of study.
