Geographic Information Technology (Certificate of Completion), Geographic Information Systems Concentration

Upon successful completion of this program, the students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate understanding of theoretical concepts related to geographic data including spatial references, data models, data file structures and database management.
2. Obtain, process and create GIS data layers appropriate to a particular research topic using a variety of techniques including field data collection, downloading from Internet, manual digitizing and other methods.
3. Demonstrate understanding of surveying concepts and their applications in GIS workflows.
4. Collect geospatial data using surveying techniques.
