Program Description

To earn the NAUC certificate, students must complete two courses of study (NA and PCT). During NA 1015 , students study basic patient care skills, including both classroom and lab instruction and clinical experience. Topics include basic patient care skills, geriatrics, simple anatomy and physiology, rehabilitation, residents’ rights, and communication. This course is web-enhanced and requires students to have computer access. Lab experiences focus on personal care, vital signs, and mobility skills. Clinical experience will focus on providing basic patient care skills to residents or patients.

PCT courses provide instruction and laboratory practice for intermediate patient care skills such as urinary catheterization and removal, sterile dressings, wound care, venipuncture, nasogastric tube insertion and removal, ostomy care and point-of-care testing. Students will learn basic medical terminology, medical abbreviations, order transcription, and unit coordinator duties. At the completion of PCT, students will possess the skills necessary to work in hospitals and other acute care settings.
