3credit hour(s)Prerequisite:IRW 0980 + MATH 0970 or appropriate placement score. This course will explore the history of wildland fire management as it relates to significant wildland fires that have influenced changes in safety practices, protocols and policy direction. Students will also become efficient in using position task books, Field Manager’s Course Guide and the Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide. Finally, students will identify fuel models and explore fuel mitigation techniques used to reduce the potential for high intensity wildfires.
