State of New Mexico General Education Core Requirements for (AA) and (AS) Degrees


 

CNM’s approved list of transfer degree general education coursework

The following is a list of state approved general education core courses currently offered at CNM, applicable to the Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS) degrees.


Oral and Written Communication

  • Six (6) credit hours of writing and three (3) credit hours of oral communication required.

 

Mathematics

  • Three (3) credit hours required for the AA degree
  • Six (6) credit hours required for the AS degree.

Laboratory Science

  • Eight (8) credit hours required, to include at least one laboratory class.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Social/Behavioral Science

  • *Six (6) to nine (9) credit hours required for AA degree
  • Six (6) credit hours required for the AS degree
  • Courses must be selected from at least two disciplines

 

 


Humanities/Fine Arts

  • *Six (6) to nine (9) credit hours required for the AA degree
  • Six (6) credit hours required for the AS degree
  • Courses must be selected from at least two disciplines

Computer Literacy

  • **3 credit hours

 * The Associate of Arts degree requires a total of fifteen (15) credit hours from the Social/Behavioral Science and Humanities/Fine Arts categories with no fewer than six (6) credit hours in each

** Computer Literacy is not a required New Mexico state general education area of learning. However, it is required to fulfill CNM’s general education core.

^ Students Intending to transfer to UNM should not select this course.
